About Us
An online IELTS school built by former IELTS examiners
Our platform is an online IELTS school and library of self-study materials. Our self-study courses, one-to-one lessons, and writing feedback are designed using examiner experience and the public IELTS band descriptors. This helps our students understand how the test is really marked, taking away guesswork or misleading online advice.
Meet our Founders
Sam Morgan
I am a former IELTS examiner and educational software developer. After completing a Masters degree in Physics from Imperial College London, I worked at a language foundation and in 2015 I became an IELTS examiner.
I began focusing on building online educational tools to support students globally (including this website), creating IELTSTutors.org with Tom in 2018.
Tom Speed
I have two decades of experience teaching English internationally at both language schools and universities.
After completing a Cambridge DELTA, I set up IELTSTutors.org with Sam so I could apply what I had learned to help students more effectively.
How we Began
IELTSTutors.org started life as an educational blog to provide IELTS insights from ex-examiners and to dispel many of the myths about IELTS that circulate online.
Over time, we have endeavoured to write materials that demystify the test, as well as deal with the most common language errors and areas of student weakness that we have encountered with our own students.
How We Teach
Our teaching approach online is an evolution of the way our tutors teach in academic and university classrooms.
Clarity over shortcuts
We make sure our students understand the test and the language behind it, rather than memorising templates or shortcuts.
Honest feedback
We tell students where they are, what’s holding them back, and what will improve their score. This can be difficult for some students at first, but is key to long term language development.
Adaptive Tuition
Our materials are built using our former examiner experience, then adapted to fit each of our students.
Understanding is key
Long-term improvement comes from understanding your mistakes, which is why we explain our corrections to student language.
History
As we have evolved from a small English blog to a global teaching platform, we have always prioritised clear, accurate and honest tuition.
Our Team
Our team is a small group of experienced IELTS teachers and former examiners. We contribute to lesson design, feedback, and student support.
